How to Choose a Kitchen Glass Splashback
Share
Printed glass splashbacks have become a somewhat trending feature in modern kitchen design. Made from toughened and heat-resistant glass, they are sleek panels that protect your walls from splashes of unwanted substances when cooking or washing up. The most attractive feature, enhancing their popularity, is their visual appeal; they come in a range of colours and designs, often making them the focal point of the kitchen.
However, they’re not just about painting a pretty picture; there’s a bit more to the decision making process if you want your choice to be just right. Read on to gather some kitchen glass splashback ideas and learn how our bespoke glass splashback design could bring your kitchen to life.
How Do You Match a Splashback To Your Kitchen?
First and foremost, your splashback needs to fit seamlessly into your kitchen; it should feel like it belongs. Whilst you don’t have to match everything perfectly, consideration of your existing colour scheme and style should definitely come into play. For example, you probably wouldn’t want a bold monochrome printed glass splashback plonked in the middle of a soft, rustic kitchen. Equally, a pastel watercolour design would look out of place in a masculine, industrial style space.
In order to match your printed glass splashback to your kitchen, think about the colours that already feature within it. Pull colours from your cabinets, countertops and flooring and use these as a starting point. If your cabinet doors are green, then choose a design that has subtle flashes of green within it. It's all about keeping it cohesive.

Glass Types and Finishes To Think About
Printed glass splashbacks come in a range of types and finishes to ensure practicality as well as aesthetic appeal.
At Bespoke Glass Products, our heat resistant kitchen splashbacks are made to withstand up to 400°C making them a safe option for positioning behind the hob or near a heat source. We use 6mm toughened safety glass which is the most recommended type due its durability; it’s highly impact resistant.
Additionally, we use low iron glass as this has been proven to offer greater clarity and brightness and it reduces that greenish tint that is often visible in standard glass.
All of our glass splashbacks come in polished edge finish for safe handling.
What About Cleaning and Daily Use?
As most homeowners prepare at least one meal a day at home, it’s essential that glass splashbacks behind hobs are designed to withstand daily use. We’ve already mentioned that our panels at Bespoke Glass Products are extremely heat resistant, but how should you go about cleaning them? Despite their built in durability, it’s still important that proper care is taken once installed.
Grease and oil can bake onto the glass over time from repeated heat exposure, making it harder to clean. Wipe it down with warm soapy water or degreaser after cooking (once cooled). If grease builds up, use a non-abrasive degreaser like or a vinegar-water mix. Let it sit for a few minutes before wiping with a microfiber cloth.
How Big Should Your Splashback Be?
Usually, we recommend that your splashback should be the same width as your hob so that it looks correctly positioned, in an aesthetic sense, and so that it offers enough protection from cooking splashes.
In terms of height, if you have an extractor fan or cabinets directly above the space where the splashback will sit, it’s best that the splashback extends up to them. Again, this alignment will provide a polished appearance and obviously, the higher the splashback, the more protection it offers.
Should You Go Bold Or Keep It Simple?
Now that is the question. And the answer is dependent on a few things. Are you someone who often changes their style and taste when it comes to home decor? If so, it might be better to avoid a statement piece in case you have a sudden change of heart later down the line. If you have a definitive style and love all things colour, then opting for something with a bold visual impact would be less of a risky move.
As mentioned earlier, you also need to consider the design of your kitchen so that your chosen coloured glass splashback looks right in situ. A traditional farmhouse style kitchen would pair well with a muted, botanical design, airing more on the simple side. Whereas a kitchen with a modern edge would act as the perfect host for a striking piece that captures attention and adds energy to the room.
It all depends on your personal style and how you want your kitchen to feel. A lot like the clothes we choose to wear, our home decor choices reveal our character and your printed glass splashback should reflect that. In other words, don’t go choosing the Highland Cow print, just because it’s trendy. Choose something that feels right, for you, and your space.
