Acrylic scratches easily over time, which clouds the view and can't be fully restored. Our pond glass windows are also toughened and laminated, so if impact damage does occur, the glass holds together safely rather than shattering. Acrylic can bow under water pressure in larger installations, whereas laminated glass maintains its shape.

Yes, it is possible to retrofit a pond glass window into an existing pond, though it is more involved than fitting one during a new build. The pond will need to be fully drained, a section of the wall cut back to create a rebate for the glass, and the liner re-routed around the new opening. You should allow for the silicone sealant to fully cure before refilling. We recommend working with an experienced pond builder for retrofit installations to ensure a watertight seal.

Always use a neutral-cure, pond-safe silicone sealant. Standard bathroom silicone often contains anti-fungal chemicals that are toxic to fish, and acidic-cure silicone can react with the glass edges causing adhesion failure. Apply the sealant around the full perimeter of the glass where it meets the rebate, leaving a 3 to 5mm expansion gap on all sides to allow for natural glass movement with temperature changes. Do not use mortar, grout or rigid filler in the expansion gap.
