8mm toughened glass is the right choice where 6mm would flex under load. Across wider spans it holds flat without deflection, which is what you need on a dining table top or a balustrade infill panel. Like all toughened safety glass it is around five times stronger than standard glass and shatters safely into small fragments rather than sharp shards if broken.
